According to this article, running chkdsk is not necessary in Windows 8/10 because these systems use Resilient File System (ReFS). The article also states that you can still run chkdsk if you want to. So I did, and the C drive finished in less than a minute. This does not give me a sense of reassurance, but that's what I know so far.
