Default How Adobe does fonts nowadays (Windows)

I've been doing a bit of poking at MS Office and reporting font-related bugs to some people I know in the Belly of the Beast, and talking the issues over with some other PPT users.

One of them mentioned that PPT simply won't let us use certain fonts. I know that Office hasn't supported Type 1/PS fonts since Office 2013 was released. He's a heavyduty user of Adobe products; we're trying to nail down a few of the issues he's run into, so I'm curious to know:

- When Adobe includes fonts with its software, what format does it distribute? OTF, I'd assume, but we all know where assuming takes us.

- DOES Adobe still distribute fonts with its software?

- At one time, Adobe would install the fonts it distributed in its own private stash, not in the normal Windows \Fonts folder. Even if your system software didn't support Type1 fonts, Adobe's apps could use the Type1 fonts stored in this special folder. You could always install them from there into the normal \Fonts folder and everything would be peachy too. Does it still do something like this, or is everything strictly Windows stock standard font installs?
