Default cross-product upgrades

Remember back to the days when Microsoft, Borland, and WordPerfect were the major players in office tools. I think I remember either them or someone else doing cross product upgrades. IOW, if you owned a product from one company, its competitors would try to entice you over by giving you the upgrade price as an initial price.

Do you remember any of the details of this, such as who was doing it?
