Default Laptop won't start

Tonight I turned off my laptop. Later when I tried to start it, nothing happened.

The power is plugged in and I can see the indicator light for that. When I push or hold the power button to start it, the green power light turns on but as soon as I release the button it goes off. If I hold it down, the green light stays on but nothing happens. If I hold down the Assist button, which is supposed to take me to a trouble-shooting system, nothing happens.
