My sister isn't feeling well and asked me to go an get some chicken soup for her at the local Whole Foods. As I was driving in the left lane of a 2 lane road, the guy in the car in front of me suddenly decided to turn left (he did use his turn signal). I slammed on my brakes only to discover that my truck wasn't stopping. Without looking, I careened in the right lane which fortunately had no car in it still stomping on my brake peddal also noticing the brake light was lit on my dashboard.
I hit my 4-way flashers and was able to pull left into an office park. There was a dry cleaners in the office park and they very kindly called AAA for me so that I could be towed to my mechanic a mile or so down the road--I did give passing thought to trying to drive myself down there but then decided it would be the height of stupidity. The guy at the dry cleaner came out to take a look after arrangements were made with AAA. We discovered that the passenger side brake line was leaking all over the place. Tow truck came pretty quickly (less than 1/2 hour) and my truck is now sitting at the shop and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fixed tomorrow--also keeping my fingers crossed it won't be ghastly expensive... I was incredibly lucky that I didn't hit the car in front of me making the left turn, that the right lane was empty and that the driver in the right lane had enough presence of mind and quick reflexes not to hit my truck. I can live without this level of excitment... Terrie |
