Default Odd ctrl-alt-del behavior

Cleaning up yet another laptop--for my sister next door...laptop belonged to the husband of one of her clients and will be passed on to a friend of my sister's...

It's a Sony Vaio running WinXP...

Anyway...I did a ctrl-alt-del and rather than the task manager displaying, a sort of performance monitor displayed and I couldn't make it go away--I had to reboot...very annoying...

Has anyone ever seen this? Is there another way to access the task manager?

Thanks!

Terrie
