Default Re-Activation Woes with Acrobat 8

I have a legitimate copy of Acrobat 8 Standard properly installed on my XP Pro SP3 system. Recently and intermittently, Acrobat will not run, displaying the error message "Adobe PDF creation cannot continue because Acrobat is not activated."

In fact, it is activated, and the only way I have found to clear the problem is to reboot, itself a pain and typically inconvenient given on-going work.

From what I have found on the web, there is no solution other than calling Adobe, and other users with this problem have received mixed results CS or TS.

I post here in the hopes someone has a workaround suggestion.
