Default Resize oddities

I didn't realize programs can be very bad at less than drastic resizing. I tried a program called httphoto to make a web gallery. It is very automated and resized the images for me. But on photos with certain types of texture, it created dark patchy areas on the photos. So I did a test and resized the same source photos using batch resize in ACDSee. I got similar bad results there too. Then the benchmark, which was Photoshop using an action. The problem did not occur.

Good thing I was paying attention. Because some of the photos looked okay. And on others it was subtle.
