Default Indesign Background Colors

Hi,

I'm a novice here, so any help would be appreciated.

I know that if I would like to set up a background color for a page, I can create a new layer, use the rectangle tool to create an object the size of the page and then use the fill tool.

What would I do if I wanted the color to fade from dark to light or one color to fade into another?

Thank you!

Eric
