Default Preflight Problems

I want to apply for a job at a print shop, but I figured I should get to know Acrobat's preflighting functions a little better first. I have to send two samples of print-ready work with my resume but am having trouble getting a file set up; it's telling me the art is not CMYK when I know it is.

I scanned a painting at 600dpi, tweaked it in Photoshop, lowered the resolution to 200, converted to CMYK, and saved it as a PSD. I placed this file in a CMYK Illustrator file along with vector text/graphics, and saved it all as a high quality print PDF with trim marks. But when I check for non-CMYK items, the preflight highlights the placed painting file as well as some Illustrator brush effects.
