Default Fontographer 5 released (don't faint)

FontLab has announced release of Fontographer 5.

From the announcement, it seems like a good update, especially as the developer has retained the look and feel of good old FOG (or so it says). It now works with OpenType (as well as all the old formats, even Type 3 PostScript, TrueType, and Multiple Masters).

This was the only even slightly scary statement in the announcement: “Fonts generated with Fontographer 5 are automatically optimized for the screen using sophisticated ‘autohinting’ algorithms developed by Adobe Systems and Fontlab Ltd.”

FOG 5 is available for both Mac OS and Windows. It costs $399. Upgrading from version 4.7 costs $149; from earlier 3 and 4 versions, $199.

More information in the announcement and at the Fontographer 5 page on the FontLab site.

Edit: Oops. Tried to order the upgrade and got bounced to an error page that invited me to contact (third-party) Customer Service.
