Default New international Kindle

According to the N.Y. Times business section this morning, Amazon will begin shipping a new Kindle capable of downloading books in the U.S. as well as in more than 100 other countries. It will cost $280 ($20 more than the current price for the U.S. version), and be available beginning October 19.

Amazon says it will offer books from Bloomsbury, Hachette, HarperCollins, Lonely Planet, Simon & Schuster, and perhaps others. It is still negotiating with Random House.

The international Kindle will use networks from AT&T and AT&T’s international roaming partners instead of the network used in the U.S. (Sprint).
