Default Removing Unneeded TTC Files

My Vista installation includes a whole bunch of font files that I'll never use. By their names I guess they are used for non-western languages?? Most are TT Collections. I tried removing them but Windows squawked "Hey I'm using that font" message. So....

Is there a way to remove them without causing problems?

Is there a reason I should let them live? I try to keep the number of font files to a minimum.
