Default Farmers’ market season!!

Just got home from one of our local farmers’ markets, with a pretty good haul, considering that it rained all through June and it wasn’t really warm enough to put out tender plants, like basil, until near the end of June.
New potatoes (I got red ones, but they also had gold and white)
Baby carrots, the real ones (not lathe-turned)
Baby beets, with greens
Slicing cucumbers (very expensive!)
Yellow (Zephyr) squash — think I will slice them the long way and grill them
Some beautiful parsley
Local blueberries
Tomatoes, local but greenhouse grown; don’t have much hope, actually
Basil and parsley plants to replace those that have died already
We also use a farm delivery service, and are actually tired of raspberries and strawberries (if you can imagine such a thing), though the raspberries at the market today did look great. From the delivery service we can also get bread, pastries, cheeses, and meat (pork, beef, chicken) from Connecticut producers. It is a bit of a crap shoot because the quality and quantity varies from week to week, but it is all much better and more interesting (usually) than what the supermarkets offer.

This is the good part of summer.
