Default Design toy (or tool)

I have been playing around with Wolfram Research’s Mathematica Reader and demonstrations of the program’s capabilities related to DTP, design, graphic images, language — the sort of stuff that preoccupies many of us here.

They have a list of demonstrations http://demonstrations.wolfram.com/to...aphy&limit=20; clicking on any lets you view an example or download a live widget (at which point you will be prompted to download the Mathematica Reader) that you can play with.

I doubt that playing with this will solve a real-life logo design problem. But it is fun, and figuring out how it works may lead who knows where.

Attached are a view of a Mathematica widget from a company blog that lets you define different forms based on semi-circles and a snapshot of the result of my playing around with a second widget that lets you design different versions of one design shape.

Another interesting blog at the Wolfram site: “Exploring Logo Designs with Mathematica” — it shows mathematical alterations of the Mercedes-Benz logo, resulting in a bunch of new logo designs, and some other examples.

Maybe now I know where all those abstract logos come from!
