Default Safari 1.3 and RSS

Do any of you use RSS?

According to David Pogue’s NY Times column today, the new version of Safari now supports RSS feeds (as does Firefox, btw). I haven’t played with RSS myself, so don’t know how FF does it. Pogue describes the way Safari works, and it sounds pretty useful to me.

Safari indicates a site that offers an RSS feed by an icon in the address window. Click on it, and you get a new RSS view of the site, with a sort of contents page (you can dynamically choose whether to view articles or headlines only). This page can be searched, sorted, or bookmarked. If you place the bookmark in your menu bar, you get updates showing how many new articles have been added since your last visit.

You can also place several of these bookmarks in a single folder, and then Safari will show a folder option to View All RSS Articles. Then all your RSS subscriptions appear on a single page. You can opt to view some or all of these and create new bookmarks of subsets, and so on.

This is all much better described in the column linked to above (you may have to register to view it).
