Default Overseas publishers and Library of Congress

I'm an overseas publisher based in the UK and am considering applying to the Library of Congress in the US to register the copyright for one of my publications.
This is because I'm planning to market the publication overseas, including the US, and believe that this measure might protect my copyright in the US.
A copy of the publication has been deposited with the British Library.
Does anyone have any views about this? Do any other overseas publishers do it?
