Default Typefaces for magazines

I lay out a monthly magazine for one of my clients. Right now we're using Utopia for the body text (9/12). I love Utopia, but the client wants to cut down on the page count and has asked for sample pages using different typefaces to see if we can fit more text on a page using another face.

So I'm looking for text fonts that are not condensed, but are naturally more compact than most. I tried Stone Print, but at 9 point it was too small. If I upsize it, it takes up as much space as the Utopia.

Any suggestions?
