Default RGB -> CMYK for PageMaker

I'm producing a book with text and colour graphics. I'm trying, and failing, to produce .pdfs for printing. The problem is that the colour on the .pdfs is all wrong, no matter what CMYK conversion I use. All the software I use is fine but not recent. So, if anyone out there knows how to deal with RGB to CMYK conversion using the following software, I'd love to hear!

I use or have: PageMaker 7.0, Photoshop 7.0, PaintShopPro 7, CutePDF.
