Default Quack 8 :(

I had to install Quark 8 today to fix somebody's files. Luckily, Quark have a 30-day evaluation period, coz I don't think I'll be buying the thing. Call me stupid (don't you dare!) but I had some real difficulties with it, eg:

They still haven't fixed the picture-circle-looks-like-an-umbrella issue. The PDF was smooth, but not when I printed direct from Quark using the proper PPD.
PDF export gives a file with a page description error using Aggrobrat's preflight.
They've messed up the space/align so I can't use it at all: if you want to align the centre of an object that's inside another (eg two concentric circles) it now moves the outer one instead of the inner one! v4 did it the other way round, thank you kindly, so did v6, and InDesign of course. Dunno about PageWhacker or Frustrator, but FreeHand does it properly, and so does Coral'sDrawers. Maybe I missed something in prefs, but I don't think so, and locking the position of the outer object didn't stop it from moving either.

It's not all bad, though: you can replace a pic in its frame and retain the properties from the original (that's very useful indeed). The job was all CMYK, so I couldn't see if Quark's removal of the DeviceN colour space had any detrimental effect, but if I have time on Monday I'll try it.

We get so little Quark work coming in these days, and that which we do is generally in 6.5 or 7 for Mac, or 4.1 for PC, so I'm reluctant to splash out upgrading. Anybody had better experiences with 8? My session this evening was hardly an in-depth analysis of the program.
