Default Principle or principal?

Just saw a job title on line somewhere that was "principle consultant" but looking at the description I wondered if it shouldn't really be "principal consultant." Soooo I went off and looked up both words, thinking that would answer my question, and got even more confused.

Anyone want to help unconfuse me? Was I right that "principle consultant" is wrong?
