Default TIF to Microsoft Office Document Imaging File???

Maybe this is a silly question but I want to understand anyway. I noticed today that all of my TIF images became "Microsoft Office Document Imaging files". When I double click on them, they open in some Microsoft Office Document Imaging window. When I open them in Photoshop, TIF is the extension and all seems fine. Why would all the files appear to change but not really change??? Just wondering if this is going to start causing me problems...
