Default WordPress 2.5 "sneak peak"

WordPress 2.5 R.C. 1, aka “sneak peak,” has been released as a public beta; the developers hope to have the real release in a few days.

There have been many changes:
  • Dashboard: Simplified, organized. Well, hooray!
  • Navigation: Clarified, functions separated into logical groups. Should help beginners a lot; not sure about experienced users, who had already at some pain adapted to confusion!
  • Write: Simplified. Not sure how helpfully, as it displays “the most common fields” (perhaps not the ones any particular user uses most, however); then hides additional options. Also remembers how you left things so you don’t have to redefine your screens each time you use them.
  • Manage: Redesigned and made consistent — managing pages, posts, media, and comments all use similar interfaces.
  • Display: New colors. Hard to care, but if you do, the old ones are available as an option. And it is now possible so you can create and share other color schemes. (Do people really do that? For control panel stuff?)
If you decide to try this, be sure to back up your existing WP files first, then try it. The idea is to collect feedback from regular users for “a few days” before releasing the new version.
