Default Evaluating potential web hosts

I have been researching web hosts recently. It is clear that any host (or hosting arrangement) will have defects or problems, at least occasionally.

These articles suggest some of the reasons for this:I am amazed at how many hosts there are — seems as if the number has doubled in the past couple of years. (Click on any of the alphabetical lists on this page to get an idea of how many there are — and these are not all of them!)
