Default TV via the Internet

They keep shouting at me that all the TV programmes are available to me on the Internet. But using Realplayer the picture size is about 4 sq ins, and going to full screen I can count the pixels.

Is it that I have a 5mb broadband line? Mostly it is slower than this anyway. Is the BBC iPlayer any better? Could I really feed from my PC into the TV and get a proper picture?
