Default Is my monitor fixin' to die?

My trusty old Mitsubishi Spectraview CRT monitor is acting strangely. It keeps hiccuping -- the image will suddenly convulse inwards for just a moment, then bounce back out to normal.

It's the kind of thing you might see with power fluctuations, but I've got it plugged into a good UPS (and yes, the battery is still at full charge), and the problem only started happening about a week ago.

When it hiccups, I check the UPS to see if the amber light (regulating AC voltage) is on, but it's not.

Any ideas what's going on? Hooking up a different monitor would be a good test, but I'm not sure I can wrestle Mr. Excitement's LCD monitor away from him. The other options are an old Nanao (well, it's not really an option, as Mr. E has already refused to carry it up from the basement) and a very old 17" Sony. I don't even know if the Sony will work with my current video card.

I'm planning to buy a big-ass LCD monitor anyway, but want to make sure the problem is not in the new video card (or anything else in my new PC).

TIA,

mxh
