Default Help! Printer/network problem

I have an HP Color LaserJet 2605dn printer connected to an ethernet router. It works from the G4, as it did in the past. But not from the iMac.

Here’s how the network is set up now:

> Cable modem
> Netgear 4-port router
> HP 2605dn printer
> iMac
> G4
> Airport wireless router
Missing (no more connection ports):
> ethernet line to switch in another room with more computers and another printer
The Color LaserJet printer prints fine from the G4, but not from the iMac. When I try to print, the Printer Utility reports “Connecting to 192.168.n.n on port 631 …” and then after two minutes reports a time-out.

Before, the network was set up with the iMac plugged directly into the Airport’s ethernet port. We had the ethernet line into the other room in the router port that now has the iMac connected to it. (I got a different error with the earlier configuration, but only with the iMac, not with the G4): “Network host 192.168.n.n [the printer location] is busy; will retry in 30 seconds.” The printer, however, was just sitting there, placidly beaming “Ready” in the little window, with a green light to confirm the status.

I believe I have set up the software correctly, using the disks that came with the printer to install PPDs and HP printing software on the iMac, and there have been no updates at the HP web site.

Any advice? This networking stuff is tricky.
