Default minus/plus single/dual???

I finally got around to installing the dvd burner a friend of mine gave me many eons ago--it's a Pioneer DVR-108 in its own firewire enclosure--and installing Nero6 which had been tableware for months...'-}}

Initially I could burn a CD using Nero6 on the new burner but Nero wouldn't recognize the inexpensive Staples DVD-R disks I bought for testing. I was going to go out today to see if I could find some TDK DVD-R disks (I like the TDK CDs I use) when I thought to see if Nero6 had an update available and sure enough there was and I was able to successfully burn a test DVD after installing the update.

I will be using the DVDs for backup image storage...

From a web search is appears that +R DVDs hold slightly less data than -R DVDs--so slight as to perhaps not make a difference...

Sooo...(finally) my questions:

1. Which DVD type do you use and why?

2. My gut says not to use dual layer and stick with single layer but is that correct?

Thanks...
