X-Rite announced in late August that it would acquire Pantone this fall for $1.8 million. Its stock fell a little right after the announcement.
I guess these deals are ho-hum but I still get a little shock when an iconic company like Pantone is sold. Most of the companies who supplied me with products in pre-DTP days are gone now, or acquired by some other company (even if some names do live on): ITC, Letraset, Pantone, Linotype, Monotype, Compugraphic, Photo-Lettering, and hordes of smaller companies whose names have faded away. Ah, well. __________________ :: |
