Default Editing Bitmap Images in InDesignCS3

I have a bitmap image of a drawing. I do not have access to the original. I cannot make changes to it in photoshop because it is locked and I can't get it to unlock so far. I have a Quark file containing that image where you can select the picture and actually change colors of the lines of the bitmap image. For example, it is a black and white bitmap image and I was able to make the background off white and the drawn image a tan color. It was really easy. I'd like to do the same thing in InDesign because I am phasing out Quark. However, I can't seem to figure it out. I can't imagine that Quark would do this with such ease while InDesign doesn't do it at all... Seems like I remember doing it it InDesignCS2 but I can't seem to recall how I did it... Any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks.
