Since I hadn’t looked at Netscape Navigator for a long time, I was surprised to see this slick, up-to-date version 9.01b.
It will pick up preferences and settings from other browsers (including Safari for the Mac), and has some interesting conveniences (including a new tab button on the tool bar, for those of us who do not use keyboard shortcuts for such things). There is also a “links pad,” a sort of short-term bookmarking tool. Among the things it picked up is the elegant Safari header. (Wonder if Windows or Linux users can also get that?) Because it is Mozilla Firefox-based, Netscape 9 accepts Firefox extensions; and offers Netscape extensions for use with Firefox 2. The automatic upgrade feature in older versions of Netscape will not work with version 9 — you do need to download it from the site. __________________ :: |
