Changing resolutions
I remember the studies from about two years ago indicating that about 50% of internet users set their monitor resolution to 800x600, and about 50% to 1024x768. Then, it was anticipated that more users would move away from 800x600, and more would move toward 1152x864. I always designed looking for the best compromise to fit both of the main two resolutions, 800x600 and 1024x768.
But things change fast. So where are we now? Are there still a lot of 800x600 users? Though that choice may seem ridiculous for viewing graphics and layout, it sure sets out a readable text very quickly. Should I mainly focus on how things look at 1024x768? Should I give substantial consideration to how things look at 800x600? If I have to consider now the 1152x864 look, at least that is much easier for finding a compromise with 1024x768, than is 800x600.
