Default Eudora 7.1 with Java, JavaScript

A financial services company is telling me that their secured emails must be read with both Java and JavaScript installed to work with my Eudora 7.1.

I have opted for paper statements from this company, and now I am posting here to ask whether Java and JavaScript have anything to do with Eudora. I was under the impression that JavaScript worked with browsers, but I suppose it could work with other programs, too.
