Default B&A mag's color wheel

The current issue of Before&After has an illuminating discussion of color as it is represented in a color wheel. (You can download a printable copy of the B&A color wheel here.)

Color wheels are wonderful to look at, but also a useful tool for deciding on color mixtures for a print job or a web site. The article goes into the structure of the wheel, as well as considerations for choosing colors to use together, or a color range for a particular season or topic.

Other useful articles in Issue 45: two interesting web sites, one small, the other a portfolio site for a designer or artist; a small (11X17-inch) poster; a panoramic booklet; and a story-style brochure. Like most articles in B&A, color, layout, and type choices are explained. There are also two articles illustrating design ideas.

This is the most effective how-to design magazine I know of. It used to have scheduling problems, but those have been resolved. You can subscribe to print or PDF editions. (There is a link to subscription information on the color wheel download site.)

(An older version of the B&A color wheel is also illustrated in a PDF article, “How to Make Color Palettes,” distributed at a Seybold conference held in September 2003.)
