Default Embedding OTF fonts in Word

The good news is that Word for Windows 12 (2007) now accepts both TrueType and OTF fonts for embedding (subject to embedding permissions). The bad news is that apparently only Word 12 can reproduce an embedded OTF font: earlier don't, although they quite happily reproduce TTF files.

An OTF file can be converted to a TTF file, but some conversion programs (e.g. TransType 3) automatically downgrade the embedding permission to read & print only.
