Default A new glasses thread

I'm off to the optometrist in a few hours, and intend to get new frames and lenses even if my prescription hasn't changed much – my current frames and lenses are nearly eight years old!

As I'm sick of using those 'old men's' popover sunglasses, I'm considering asking for lenses that change in sunlight.

What is the latest and best in this area? I live in the coastal subtropics, where we have clear skies and thus a lot of glare, all year round.

Previous discussions have suggested that they don't work very well when you're driving, and I also have some concern regarding glare from the side (the popovers I use have side lenses).

Any suggestions welcome.
