Default Background Elimination

I have a logo with a background in grey and yellow to remove, without affecting the rest of the logo. I plan to do this with Paint Shop Pro 6 or 8. I know I can do it by careful work with the clone brush, but that is tedious work when maybe the two colors in the background can be changed to white without affecting the rest of the logo.

I attach a piece of the logo in JPG image format, but I am working in full color with TIF format for the actual image. Any suggestions?
