Default Choosing a CMS

I am considering a CMS for the redesign of the web site for a synagogue. The ability for users to add/edit content would be key. As would an easy-to-maintain calendar. Blogging packages do not seem to have enough layout features.

I saw one reference here to Joombla and went looking for samples. The ones I found seemed very heavy on javascript and slow. There did seem to be great flexibility in page layout.

I currently use Dreamweaver. Would the Dreaweaver CS3 and Contribute be a good option?

So I am looking for suggestions.
