Default help me make it better!

Hi, I'm new here. I designed my own site using Dreamweaver 8. It's my first attempt at ANYTHING like this. I know next to nothing about computers and html. I read Dreamweaver for Dummies and went for it. I'm pretty pleased with my site. I do need to re-scan my pictures, using my new scanner to make them look a lot better. My big problem is that it takes a long time to load the images. Each thumbnail is 4k and each photo, (in it's own layer) is 20-60k. I don't know how to make the file size of each of these photos smaller so that the pages load faster. Any ideas? Thanks! Zofia
