Default Norman H. in the NY Times

Laurie Rosenwald is a New York City artist and teacher who believes that “trying to be creative is deadly” and that “You can’t search for a surprise. You’re only surprised when you make a mistake.”

Those comments caught my eye. I believe she is absolutely right — the urge to “be creative” pretty much guarantees stilted results! So I read the small article, only to discover she and the forum’s own Norman Hathaway are to collaborate on a book, How to Make Mistakes on Purpose.

This was in a small piece in the NY regional edition of the Times today — read more about Laurie Rosenwald and her ideas in “Art Workshop Lesson: Make Mistakes.”

And maybe we can get Norman to talk about his ideas on mistake-making.
