Default Max-width in CSS

I read about a max-width available in CSS2, and although IE doesn't currently support it, it looks kinda handy. I've been playing with it when getting this page ready: poster2006.htm

What I'm wondering is if there's any way to keep the aspect ratio of the image set as the image shrinks with the window size.

P.S. No, I'm not working on removing the tables and image menus at this time.
