Default Quick 'n' Dirty Chrome Effect

I'm in a bind and need to add a chrome-like ring around filled circles. Have Photoshop 7. Filled circles are actually gauge dials of various sizes from 2 to 5 inches, the chrome ring should look embossed and have chrome (what else) finishes.

I made some before but over the years somebody flattened them and now I don't have any of the layers to work with. I do recall something called a "displacement map" that came from a Photoshop 6 WOW book workflow...
but I need something not quite so involved for now.

Examples attached.

Is there a tutorial somewhere I can latch onto? I'm going hunting but I thought I'd post this here as well...
