Default Incredible Shrinking URL

I found this article interesting, The Incredible Shrinking URL in last Monday's issue of TidBITS.

I'm of a mind to restrict my own use of tinyurl.com and the like to email messages and, here in the forum, use the vBulletin "insert Hyperlink" feature to attach a link to real message text (example above ). I know I like being able to see an entire, real URL, which of course I can still do here by floating my cursor over the live link and looking at the bottom of my browser window. I agree with Glenn's point that, even if a link goes dead, if you can see what it was it gives you a better idea of where it once would've taken you.
