Default CSS pt vs. px

I am learning CSS by converting an existing large web site from FONT, etc.

When I started, I had CSS text sizes in points, but now I have changed to pixels. What I want to know is how I convert a point size to pixel size. I suspect that this depends on display settings, though. My new monitor is set at 1024x768.

I am guessing that I will get plenty of input in here, among the font experts.
