Default Digital Film Tools' 55mm plugin

Digital Film Tools (an off-shoot of Digital FilmWorks) provides visual effect plugins for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Avid Edit Systems, Apple Final Cut Pro, and Discreet Systems. Recently I took a look at the Photoshop version of their plugin set called "55mm."

Like nik Color Efex, Digital Film Tools' 55mm simulates glass camera filters, specialized lenses, lab processes, and film grain. But it also simulates natural light effects, such as light cast through windows, trees, and skylights.

In my brief test of these plugins, I found the effects to be of high quality, and most of the controls easy to understand. Several of the plugins are ones I would enjoy having in my photo tool kit.

If you decide to try the demo of 55mm, also try their plugin called Digital Film Lab. It combines a subset of several 55mm plugins into a single interface, and it comes with presets. It is up to you to decide if this kind of product differentiation makes sense, but if you do try the 55mm demo, I suggest you also take a look at Digital Film Lab (there is a discount if you buy both at the same time). Also be aware that the functionality of their Light! and Ozone plugins can be found in 55mm.
