Default Mac organizing software

I have been using iData Pro (in its various incarnations) since 1985 or so, whenever it was first released. I dabbled with More and Acta, years ago, but basically rely on good old iData for most kinds of information storage.

Now I am trying to organize a collection of articles (so they are searchable in terms of content, including images, and details about them), so I went to see what else was available. I think that FileMaker might be overkill in some aspects and perhaps not that useful in others, but that too must be on the list.

Boy, am I confused! What a bewildering bunch of programs I found. According to a lengthy (if not altogether illuminating) discussion on Macintouch, the contenders seem to be these: Alepin, AppendNote, Boswell, Chandler, Circus Ponies Notebook, Curio, DevonThink, Dossier, FO, Hog Bay Notebook, iNotePad, Inspiration, InTouchWith!, iOrganizeX, Jotz, Knowledge Tank, MacJournal, MindFortress, MoosePad, Note Book, Notepad Deluxe, Notes, NoteTaker, NovaMind, OmniOutliner, Pyramid, StickyBrain, Tinderbox, VoodooPad, xPad, znippetizer, and who knows about new ones being developed as I type!

Anyone have any experience with any of them? Any advice at all?
