Default External hard drives

I've travelled the CD/DVD route, and am now looking at a Firewire external HD for backups. My preferred supplier has both Maxtor and Seagate 200GB drives that stand vertically (important - very little space here) and work a Mac. The Maxtor is $20 cheaper than the Seagate, but the Seagate comes with backup software. However, my Déjà Vu backup software would work anyway, so that's not an issue.

So does anybody have any horror stories to tell about either of these drives?
