Default Top 40 mag covers of past 40 years

The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) decided for unknown reasons to have a survey of magazine covers during the past 40 years. It strikes me as slightly odd (why not 50?)

The 444 candidates were submitted by the magazines (up to four each), and the judging panel included “52 magazine editors, design directors, art directors, and photography editors.”

Interesting array. Esquire, The New Yorker, People, Time, Life, and National Geographic are represented more than once.

The top 40 cover thumbnails were shown at the ASME site but they seem to have removed that page. They offer descriptions of the covers at the ASME site, if that is of use to you.
