Default Custom 404 error page...

I was browsing around my web host the other day and noticed that I could create a custom 404 error page but didn't think too much about it until I downloaded my domain stats log and discovered that someone referenced a page on my site that no longer exists. So I decided to create a custom page...

It was a pretty interesting process. I decided to just use my main page and put an error message on it and I saved it as 404.html in my web home directory. I also had to turn this feature on via my web host...

Got it uploaded and put in an invalid url for my site and the sure enough the custom 404 error page popped up but none of my images displayed--text was fine--and none of the links worked. I'm using GoLive 5 by the way...

I mucked about with it and discovered that if in the Inspector palette--"basic" and "link" tabs--I clicked on "://" icon for all links, making it an absolute link, then on the 404 page, every link actually worked.

If you want to see my custom 404 error page, try:

http://tlbtlb.com/links/linkdown/

which was the now non-existent page I found in my domain stats log...
