Default Semantic HTML?

Questions about the term “semantic HTML” came up recently.

The “Semantics, HTML, XHTML, and Structure” article from an attractive web site called Brainstorms & Raves clarifies semantics and summarizes good usage of HTML elements — closely following the W3C standard.

(There is a link on that page to a PDF version of the article, but the link appears to be broken.)

The site’s archives also include articles on accessibility, browsers, CSS, information architecture, search engine optimization, and more — some are a couple of years old (perhaps significant for web topics), but the several I looked at do seem worth checking out.
